Terms of Use

These terms are an agreement between you and ancy ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using the ancy app or website, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use ancy.

1. Using ancy

• You must be at least 13 years old to use ancy.
• You're responsible for your account and for keeping it secure, including your password if you sign up with email, or your Apple/Google account if you sign in that way. Let us know right away if you think someone else is using your account.
• Provide accurate information when you sign up, and don't impersonate anyone else.
• You can create an account with an email and password, or by signing in with Apple or Google; your use of those sign-in services is also subject to Apple's or Google's own terms.

2. Your content

Trips, photos, rankings, notes, comments, Weekly Prompt posts, and everything else you add to ancy is yours. You keep ownership of it. So the app can function, you grant us a limited, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, display, and share your content, but only as needed to operate ancy and only according to your privacy settings. This license ends when you delete your content or your account.

You're responsible for what you post. Only upload content you have the right to share.

3. ancy premium

ancy premium is an optional paid subscription. The free version of ancy stays free, and nothing you have already created is taken away if you never subscribe.

Plans and pricing. ancy premium is offered as a monthly plan at $4.99 per month and a yearly plan at $29.99 per year, in U.S. dollars. Prices in other countries are set per App Store or Google Play storefront and may differ. The price that applies to you is always shown on the purchase screen before you buy.

What it unlocks. Up to 40 photos on each city ranking instead of 5, photo and PDF attachments on the places pinned to your trips, and shareable recap pages for the cities you rank.

Billing and auto-renewal. You buy ancy premium through Apple's App Store or Google Play, not directly from us, and payment is charged to that store account when you confirm the purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically for the same period at the then-current price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your store account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the current period ends.

Managing and cancelling. You can cancel at any time from your store account: on iOS, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions; on Android, open the Google Play app, then Payments and subscriptions. The app links you to the right screen from Profile. Cancelling stops future renewals, and your subscription stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for. We can't cancel a subscription on your behalf.

Refunds. Apple and Google handle all payments and refunds for subscriptions bought through their stores, under their own policies, so we aren't able to issue refunds for a store purchase. You can request one from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com or through Google Play support.

If your subscription ends. We don't delete your content because a subscription lapsed. Photos past the first five on a ranking are hidden rather than deleted, and they reappear in full if you subscribe again. Files already attached to your pins stay readable by you and the people on that trip, though you can't attach new ones. Recap pages you already created keep working, and you can still revoke any of them at any time, but you can't create new ones until you subscribe again.

Invite reward. If three people sign up for ancy using your invite code and each ranks at least one city, you get one month of ancy premium at no charge. The reward is available once per account, is not a subscription, never bills you, and ends on its own after one month. Invite codes only work on accounts less than 14 days old. We may withhold the reward for accounts created only to earn it, and we may change or end the program at any time without affecting a reward already earned.

Free trials and introductory offers. Apart from the invite reward above, we don't currently offer a free trial. If we offer an introductory price or trial in the future, its terms will be shown on the purchase screen before you buy, and any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited if you buy a subscription before the trial ends.

Changes to premium. We may change subscription prices or what premium includes. Where a price change would affect an existing subscription, Apple or Google will notify you and, where required, ask for your consent before the next renewal; if you don't agree, you can cancel before that date.

4. Acceptable use

Don't use ancy to:

• Harass, threaten, or harm other people, or post hateful or unlawful content.
• Post spam, or upload content that infringes someone else's rights.
• Attempt to access other users' accounts or private data, probe or disrupt our systems, or scrape the service.
• Misrepresent who you are or your affiliation with anyone.

We may remove content or suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or put other users at risk.

5. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains what data we collect and how we use it. It's short and written in plain language; please read it.

6. Third-party content and services

ancy displays content from third parties, such as maps, place details, ratings, photos, and city photos, including place information provided by Google. ancy also lets you share content you create, such as ranking graphics, to third-party apps like Instagram or Messages, and lets you share links from apps like TikTok into ancy to save a place. We don't control and aren't responsible for third-party content, services, or websites linked from, or shared to or from, the app; your use of those services is governed by their own terms.

7. Travel information disclaimer

ancy helps you plan and remember trips, but we don't guarantee the accuracy of place information, opening hours, locations, or other travel data. Always double-check important details before you travel. You're responsible for your own travel decisions and safety.

8. Service availability and feature limits

ancy is provided "as is" and "as available." We work hard to keep it running well, but we don't guarantee it will always be available, uninterrupted, or error-free, and we may change, suspend, or discontinue features at any time. Some features have usage limits (for example, a daily cap on discovery suggestions, one Weekly Prompt post per week, or the number of photos a city ranking holds, which differs between the free and premium versions as described in Section 3), and we may adjust those limits as the service evolves.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

ancy is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. We don't warrant that ancy will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components, or that any defects will be corrected. You use ancy at your own risk. Some jurisdictions don't allow the exclusion of certain implied warranties, so some of the above exclusions may not apply to you.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, ancy and its creators won't be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, revenue, or goodwill, arising from your use of the service, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to $50 or the amount you paid us in the past 12 months, whichever is greater. Some jurisdictions don't allow the limitation of certain damages, so some of the above limits may not apply to you.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless ancy and its creators from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to your use of ancy, your content, or your violation of these terms or the rights of a third party.

12. Termination

You can stop using ancy and delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete account in the app. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms, at our discretion and without notice. Sections 2 (for content already shared per your settings before deletion), 9, 10, 11, and 14 survive termination.

13. App store terms

The ancy iOS app is distributed through Apple's App Store, and the ancy Android app through Google Play. Apple and Google are not parties to these terms and have no responsibility for the app or its content. Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies to your use of the iOS app, and Google Play's Terms of Service applies to your use of the Android app, in each case to the extent it doesn't conflict with these terms.

14. Governing law and dispute resolution

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

If a dispute comes up, please contact us first at hello@ancy.app so we can try to resolve it informally. If we can't resolve it that way, you agree that any dispute arising from these terms or your use of ancy will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Cook County, Illinois, and you consent to personal jurisdiction and venue there.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make meaningful changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of ancy after changes means you accept the updated terms.
